Sara’s favorite sport is soccer, which she has been playing since she was four, which is when she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Now 10, she also enjoys swimming, reading, and writing. She is a member of the Girl Scouts. One day, she hopes to be the first woman president. Sara was the 2006 spokesperson for JDRF’s D.C. Walk. She gives speeches at events and is a youth advocate—she convinced a local store to sell JDRF sneakers. She wrote her first book when she was five, and changed her own pump site at camp. She would like to continue to raise awareness about type 1 diabetes and JDRF, and let Congress know how important it is that ways are found to fund research toward a cure.
