Jaylen from Massachusetts

Profile:

When Jaylen was diagnosed last year at the age of 6, his mom says she felt as though she were having "an out of body experience," and afraid she would never learn how to use all the syringes, insulin meters and strips needed to treat her son. Jaylen soon grew to accept the constant finger pricks and shots, and he has become very proactive about his own care. Now 7, Jaylen and his mom support the JDRF Walks, participating as Team Jay-walkers, and Jaylen has also raised money selling sugar-free lemonade and sugar-free cookies in front of their home. "We can win this war!" his mom says. "We can not afford to be this close and not do all that we can as a nation to beat this dreadful disease."
