An active sportsman, Matthew is involved in competitive swimming, and likes baseball and shooting with a bow and arrow. Recently, he became a black belt first degree in Tae-kwon-do. When he was diagnosed, six years ago at age eight, he already knew about diabetes, since his younger brother had had it since he was 15 months old. Matthew would like to convince Congress to support diabetes research so that we can find a cure the fastest way possible. “The first thing I want to do when I am cured is eat a sleeve of Oreo cookies and drink a grape soda. My brother says he wants to be able to keep his candy on Halloween and eat a bunch of it. This may sound silly, but to us it’s a lot.”
